CLIENT: Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site
Philadelphia, PA
DESCRIPTION: This exhibit, located in Cellblock 4 of the historic prison, compliments the previously installed 16-foot tall outdoor bar graph showing the growth of incarceration rates in the Unites States by decade since 1900. The exhibit provide visitors with the opportunity to understand the causes of this growth, how it has affected disenfranchised communities, and what can be done to change this trajectory.
USA provided design/build management, cost consulting, project management, fabrication and installation. The exhibit includes metalwork, graphics, media, and large, visually impactful elements that communicate the issues quickly and clearly.
On this unique project, USA supported the exhibit development process from the beginning. We had the opportunity to attend content workshops, lead development sessions, and make design recommendations. Our team was honored to have participated in the entirety of the project and proud of the Eastern State team for winning the Overall Prize for Excellence in Exhibitions from the American Alliance of Museums 2017.
