CLIENT: Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Commission
Niagara Falls, NY
DESCRIPTION: USA partnered with Studio Tectonic to turn the 1863 U.S. Custom House into a fully immersive museum that discusses the unique perspective of the Underground Railroad in Niagara Falls. This project was led by the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Commission, chaired by Bill Bradberry, directed and curated by Ally Spongr, and based on research by lead historian Dr. Judith Wellman. The Heritage Center’s design-build teams include Studio Tectonic of Boulder, Colorado, Richard Lewis Media Group of Boston, Massachusetts and Electrosonic, Inc.
USA had a great opportunity to share the exhibit development process with students from the Lincoln University Museum Studies Program. Similar to the goals of the exhibition, our presentation aimed at illustrating how museums can connect stories of the past directly with communities of the present.
