AASLH Award Post

Coming in at Number 7 on the 10 Best list is the new Heritage Center and Museum. This exhibition turns an 1863 U.S. Custom House into a fully immersive museum that discusses the unique perspective of the Underground Railroad in Niagara Falls. This project was led by the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Commission, chaired by Bill Bradberry, directed and curated by Ally Spongr, and based on research by lead historian Dr. Judith Wellman.

NIAGARA FALLS UNDERGROUND RAILROAD HERITAGE CENTER

The Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center celebrated its grand opening in May 2018. This new museum tells the stories of abolitionists and freedom seekers in Niagara Falls during the time of slavery and the Underground Railroad.
