Models & Prototypes

USA produces the highest quality scale architectural, landscape, and working product models by hand and machine with a high level of detail and accuracy. Our models and prototypes can be seen around the world, on permanent display at the Pentagon and the Smithsonian Institution, on tradeshow floors, and at corporate facilities. Our working prototypes and full-scale mockups are used by the aerospace and nuclear industries for component testing in wind tunnel simulations, to plan efficient production facility layouts, and as training aids at nuclear plants. Scale models and prototypes offer flexibility in cost, while conveying the essential and accurate details of your product. Contact us today to find out more.

Babcock & Wilcox Reactor

Client: Babcock & Wilcox

Project: Reactor Product Model

USA designed this 1" = 50' scale product model for marketing and promotion at tradeshows. The model includes internal blue lighting and parts that disassemble to highlight important internal features to potential customers.

Client: BAE

Project: RG33 Product Models

USA has produced several scale models for tradeshow and promotional purposes for BAE. These 1:8 scale highly-detailed armored vehicle models were built from client-supplied drawings, and even include all nuts and bolts, and sculpted models of emergency backpacks that are carried on the side of the vehicles.

Exelon Torus

Client: Exelon Corp

Project: Torus Training Model

This 1:32 scale model is used to help technicians plan best practices, routes, and work plans when maintaining equipment during a facility shutdown. Scale figures are included, and all walkways, staircases, and piping are located accurately so that real-life planning can take place before ever entering the actual site.

Flowserve Pump

Client: Flowserve Industries

Project: Pump Seal Training Model

This 1:1 full scale mockup model is used for training employees on best practices for replacement and maintenance of nuclear reactor pump seal equipment. USA has created pump seal models in dyed acrylic for clarity on showing technicians different parts of the seal, and also in milled stainless steel so technicians can physically train on a model with accurate weights prior to suiting up and entering the nuclear facility to perform maintenance on the actual pump seal.

Linde Cryogenic

Client: The Linde Group

Project: Cryogenic Freezer Product Model

This working model of a cryogenic freezer includes internal lighting, and moving parts operated by a push button connected to a motor. The Linde Group has used this 1:4 scale model in place of bringing their full-sized actual equipment as a new approach to the tradeshow floor. Using the model reduces their cost in shipping and labor setup, while still showing their clients the essential functionality and aesthetic appeal of their freezer products.

Fairmount Water Works

Client: Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center

Project: Wet Model

This working wet model is a historic ½" = 1'-0" scale replica of the original Water Works facility that provided water from the Schuylkill River to the city of Philadelphia. The model features moving turbines and water, and was used as a fundraising tool to create the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center. It continues to be on display at the Interpretive Center to this day.

Boeing Rotor Hub

Client: Boeing

Project: Univ. of Arizona Working Rotor Hub Model

USA has worked with Boeing on several prototyping and model projects. This full scale working aluminum rotor hub model spun at a high rate of speed, and was monitored in our shop for performance to inform design decisions and modifications.

Bank of America Landscape

Client: Bank of America (formerly MBNA)

Project: Landscape and Architectural Models

USA has built dozens of 1" = 30' scale models for MBNA over a 10-year span, with models that were located at their corporate headquarters in Delaware, Maine, and around the world. MBNA created corporate visitor centers, and used the models to highlight their extensive facilities to other corporate executives, investors and clients. The models often included supplementary displays, lighting and multimedia components.

USA built this 3/16" = 1'-0" scale model from milled clear acrylic for Kieran Timberlake to enter into a competition on the future of prefabricated housing at the New York Museum of Modern Art. The model was selected from over 400 entries to be built at full-scale for the exhibition, and USA also built the actual wall panels that would make up the three-story "Cellophane House" exhibited at the MoMA.

Fort Trombull

Client: Fort Trumbull

Project: Landscape and Architectural Model

This 1" = 40' scale model included forts, historic ships, simulated water, landscapes and cities. We also created an outdoor, touchable cast bronze version of the same model. Both models continue to be on display at Fort Trumbull to orient visitors at this historic site.
